Melanin Mondays: Very Alive and Well

Hey everybody! Today’s Melanin Mondays feature is for all my fashion killa’s. My friend Aaron Anderson, owner of Very Alive and Well has been expanding his vision and brand for years now. Everywhere I look, someone is tagging him on Instagram wearing some of his fly apparel. Its the perfect blend of streetwear and comfortable ensembles, taking the Richmond area (and beyond) over by popular demand. Not only that, but the message behind his clothing reflects a very powerful message. I wanted to pick Aaron’s brain a bit about his experience as an entrepreneur. I hope that this is able to inspire someone wanting to start something of their own!

How and when did Very Alive and Well begin?

Alive and Well was started in college .. just messing around with some friends, talking about building brands and bringing awareness. Fast forward 3 ½ years and here I am..

What does Very Alive and Well represent?

Living in your truth, bringing awareness to all aspects of life and interaction. I want you to look at “Alive And Well” on your shirt and ACTUALLY FEEL IT (spiritually and mentally)!

Did your initial vision for your brand only include apparel?

It was just hats and stickers! But as time grew we’ve tapped into everything! Now we drop exclusive pieces from accessories to even helping people build their own brand and bring their ideas to life.

Was it challenging for you to manage a business and complete your college education?

Very challenging because I was on scholarship in the music program, my time was real limited. I would be in class all day then have practice directly after. The time i would have to create were the grave time hours but everything worked its way out.

What kind of impact has this had on your life, and also the lives of others?

Seeing others say they look up to me or that i’m an inspiration really makes my heart full. Helped me with my patience and finding the good in every situation. I have a lot of “ups” and “downs” in the field but they make for a better person and a better business.

Do you have any favorite pieces from any of your releases?

What lessons have you learned as an entrepreneur?

STAY HUNGRY, have patience, everything is gonna flow how you want things to flow no matter how well you plan for it you need to just let things rock out. When you get discouraged, its not the end of the world. Its always a new day tomorrow! NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!

When it comes to creating, what inspires your designs/releases?

Everyday life! Most of my best sellers were from random ideas.. crazy colorways. I wanted to stay true to my style and what I would wear but put that twist on it!

In the future what are some goals that you have for Very Alive and Well?

Manufacturing warehouse on the East and West coasts. Learning center for fine arts.

One piece of advice for someone who may not know where to begin with discovering their passion?

NOBODY WILL SUPPORT YOU LIKE YOU SUPPORT YOURSELF! BELIEVE IN YOU, THERE ISN’T A LIMIT ON PROGRESS, THERE IS NO SET DESTINATION ….

Where can those interested in supporting find you?

Aaron’s dedication to his brand goes far beyond the things that he displays on his socials. Behind the scenes, he puts in overtime to ensure that he continues to be innovative and ahead of the curve. I particularly love the relationship that he has built with his supporters, whether its through motivational posts and videos or his superb customer service. As a young educated black man, its very inspiring to see him pursue his passion and inspire others all the while. If you’re looking for some new gear for the fall season, be sure to tap in with him on social media to catch his new drops. Looking to start an apparel business? Aaron is always available to help those who need some pointers. As far as shopping with his brand, you won’t regret it. I’m looking forward to some new hoodies and sweat suits- tell him I sent you!
